  22.      Firstly, thanks to everyone who replied to my request for info on the
  23. 40-Folder bug - I'll try reading the FAT instead of visiting each folder.

  25.         Now..from what I have read here recently, am I to understand that even the
  26. lastest ROMs do not fix this pathetic bug?? _Surely_ a bug like this could have
  27. easily been fixed (although I do not profess to know the 'ins and outs' of it),
  28. and make the ST nearer to the perfect machine than it is already?
  29.  
  30.    While on the subject of new ROMs, can anyone suggest a valid reason for
  31. purchasing them, how much , where from etc? I apologise in advance if this
  32. information has been posted before, but I don't get to read rn that often.

  53. This may be more than what you need.  This converts a year, month, and day
  54. to a "Julian Day" number.  A Julian Day number MOD 7 = 0=Monday to 6=Sunday.

  117. That can't be. When I took my Gemini-disk to a friend who only has TOS 1.0
  118. it behaved correctly. It displayed an alert-box "I only run on TOS 1.0 or newer"
  119. and afterwards it went back to the desktop.

  122. Anyway, the posted version is out of date. It is 1.0 and I already got 1.1,
  123. which is much better...

  149.         Adaptec controllers will do bad sector mapping at the controller
  150. level, if the software tells them to.  The format code needs to send down
  151. the bad sector info to the controller and have it remap those sectors.  I
  152. thought that ICD's software did this, you may just have an old version.
  153. (I know that most of Dave's STs are using ICD controllers/software so you
  154. shouldn't have any problem.)

  175. Anyway, there are many more programs which allow this. I for example am
  176. using a program called fx_emu.prg which is by NEC.

  178. I hoped TOS 1.4 will overcome this nasty "feature" but it isn't. Sigh.
  179. If Atari used the right Codes, the could have made a hardcopy which works
  180. on both, 9 pin and 24 pin, printers.

  182. Stefan Lindner's TeX-Driver (nl10.ttp) does this. The output isn't too well,
  183. and the pagesizes are distorted, but you can print with it.

  185. Allan, what about including 24 pin support in the next release of TOS?
  186. It can't be that much work and it is well worth it (IMHO)...

  209.   I tried yesterday to write a program to read in the FAT table and the root
  210. directory off a disk using the Rwabs(..) call in sozobon C. It seemed to do
  211. this fine on disks A and B, but an attempt to do this off my hard disk caused
  212. a crash/lockup on the Rwabs call.
  213.   I understand that some problem with Rwabs has been discussed in this group,
  214. but I must have missed it. Could some kind soul send me a summary of what
  215. the discussion was about and/or tell me if I am doing anything stupid!!!

  218.   The aforemetioned hard drive is one that I have just obtained. It is a Power
  219. Computing Series 900 Drive (48Mb 28ms). It came with an external power supply
  220. with a 2 pin round pin plug on it!!). It seems to have some kind of clock in
  221. it, but it is really strange, it seems to remember the time and date at which
  222. it was turned off at, as long as the length of time isn't longer than about a
  223. day! It seems to require 2 attempts at booting after being turned on for the
  224. first time, however long you wait before powering up the ST, and after resetting
  225. the ST the screen flickers horrendously (like putting the screen to 60Hz mode)
  226. before it boots and restores the white blank screen.
  227.   Has anybody else got any experience with this make of drive, and if so could
  228. they let me know if it does similar things.
